چکیده

The present study was conducted to assess the physiological and biochemical responses of winter vegetable radish (Raphanus sativus L.) to salinity stress. Salt stress markedly reduced biomass production of both radish varieties. Shoot fresh and dry weights were significantly reduced under salt stress, higher reduction was found at 120 mM NaCl as compared. Salt stress significantly reduced chlorophyll contents in both radish varieties. Higher contents of chl. a&b chl. a/b ratio was found in variety Deci White while, lower in Lal Pari under different levels of sodium chloride. Physiological parameters such as net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, sub-stomatal CO conc. and water use efficiency was decreased in 2 both radish varieties under salt stress. Out of various physiological and biochemical indicators, net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll content can be used as more effective selection indicator for salinity tolerance in winter vegetable radish.

Nitrogen, season and cultivar affect radish growth, yield, sponginess and hollowness

The optimization of nitrogen application for root crops such as radish is important not only for yield and product quality (sponginess and hollowness) but also for the environment. Therefore, we evaluated the effect of four levels of N application (0, 150, 300 and 450 mg l-1 N) on three radish cultivars (Saxa, Red Fuoko and White Ghiaccio) grown in pots in autumn/winter (from mid-October to mid...

Evaluation and selection for salinity stress tolerance in Iranian promising alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) ecotypes

To improve salinity stress tolerance in Iranian promising alfalfa ecotypes, including Shorkat, Gharghologh, Gharaghozloo, Rehnani, Roodasht Isfahan and Gavkhooni, a recurrent selection scheme was carried out at roodasht and kabootarabad field stations, Isfahan, Iran, during 2012-2017 growing seasons. Six Iranian promising alfalfa ecotypes were planted in the autumn of 2012 and irrigated with sa...

Impact of sea salt stress on growth and some physiological attributes of some soybean (Glycine Max L.) varieties.

The impact of three levels of sea salt (0.0, 8.0, and 16.0 mS/cm2) on six varieties of soybean (Crawford, G21, G22, G35, G82, and G83) was studied. Growth criteria, photosynthetic pigments, soluble sugars, soluble protein, free amino acids, free proline, and protein profile of soybean varieties were investigated under sea salt stress. Results of this study showed a considerable decrease in grow...

اثر تنش شوری بر خصوصیات فیزیولوژیک و چگونگی جذب عناصر سدیم و پتاسیم در اندام هوایی و غده سه رقم تربچه

Salinity is a limiting factor in agricultural production that inflicts great damages on agricultural products. In order to decrease or stop salinity stress, numerous methods are proposed by different researchers. One of the methods to reduce the damages of salinity stress is cultivating tolerant plants to salinity. In this research, resistance of three radish cultivars to salinity stress was in...

Salt Stress Induced Modulations in Growth, Compatible Solutes and Antioxidant Enzymes Response in Two Cultivars of Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L. Cultivar TSF1 and Cultivar SM) Differing in Salt Tolerance

Safflower is an important, traditional, multipurpose oil crop. This was to investigate the effect of different salinity levels on morphological, physiological, biochemical and antioxidant response of two safflower cultivars (Carthamus tinctorius L. cultivar TSF1 and cultivar SM) differing in salt tolerance. Salinity stress (0.0%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% of NaCl) was induced to safflower plants afte...
